Program Overview

The Welding and Metal Fabrication ROP course ​ is a full year course (two semesters) designed to prepare students for a career as a modern-day welder and metal fabricator. This program provides essential skill sets in the art of gas and arc welding and related processes, along with the foundational knowledge required for immediate entry into the trade.

The course emphasizes the development of independent work skills through individualized instruction and increasingly complex project work, all completed under the close supervision of a certified instructor.

Program Description: Core Skills and Content

This program is intensive and hands-on, focusing on both technical skills and professional readiness. Completers will gain the experience to fabricate or repair all types of metallic objects using various metal-working tools, equipment, and techniques.

Skills and Activities:
  • Welding Processes: Select the correct welding process for particular materials and conditions.
  • Equipment Operation: Effectively operate DC, oxy-acetylene, and welders commonly found in professional establishments, including proficiency with OFW (Oxy-Fuel Welding) and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) equipment.
  • Quality Control: Inspect welds through approved testing procedures and describe common defects.
  • Blueprint Reading: Introduction to AWS welding symbols and blueprints.
  • Measurements: Understanding and proficiency with measurement tools specific to the industry.
  • Projects: Create/Fabricate a unique project that you can display at the local fair!
